Over the last several years, Maryland has enacted two major law changes that allow parties to get divorced much easier. For example, if parties do not have minor children or if they have children that are over the age of 18, they're allowed to sign a written document that disposes of their property and get divorced as soon as they file. They do not need to wait one year after the date of separation and as long as they appear at the divorce hearing, the court can grant them a divorce. In addition, if the parties appear for a divorce, they no longer need a third party witness to corroborate their statements. That enables parties to get divorced quicker without the need of an additional party.
