Home / Videos / What is a bond bill and how does my non profit succeed in passing one?

So bond bills are introduced by legislators in order to fund local projects in their districts. These budget requests are separate from the governor's capital budget, so they require a robust legislative strategy. Alexander and Cleaver will work with clients in order to determine the best bill sponsor, file any necessary paperwork, generate support from the local delegation and county municipal officials, coordinate meetings with the budget leaders as well as other key stakeholders in the legislature, as well as prepare for the budget hearing in front of the budget committees. Only a small percentage of these requests are actually funded, so it's important to determine the greatest strengths and impacts, not only on the local community, but as well as the surrounding region in the state of Maryland as a whole. Once we do succeed in having the funds approved, Alexander and Cleaver will work with clients in actually encumbering those funds so they can actually spend them as well as determine any other additional grants or funding opportunities that may be available.
