Tyler W. Bennett joined the Government Relations team in January of 2013. His primary focus is on budget and procurement matters, while also working on a wide range of issues including taxes, public safety, energy, environmental, and business regulation. Prior to joining the firm, Tyler served as the lead Budget and Taxation Committee staff person for Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, Jr. In that role, he was responsible not only for monitoring the actions of the Committee, but also for maintaining working relationships with both the Democratic and Republican committee members.
Since joining Alexander & Cleaver, Tyler has represented clients for legislative, regulatory, and state & local procurement matters. He monitors Maryland’s State Operating and Capital Budgets – a skill he developed while working for President Miller. Due to his experience with the State’s budget process, Tyler has been able to assist clients, particularly non-profits, in positioning themselves to receive millions of dollars in capital funding, as well as advancing other budgetary interests. Additionally, he keeps track of regulatory changes proposed by the State agencies in order to provide all of our clients with the opportunity to engage in the process. Tyler continues to build on his relationships with members of the General Assembly, as well as administration officials at both the state level and localities through the State, including Howard County, Harford County, and Baltimore City, where he spends time monitoring local issues on behalf of our clients. Tyler also has experience in assisting clients expand their public sector presence throughout the State by developing and implementing procurement strategies as well as assisting clients deal with the Board of Public Works.
In addition to his advocacy before the General Assembly, Tyler has extensive experience working with clients to generate procurement opportunities at both the state and local levels, particularly in the IT sector. He works to enhance the profiles of businesses within Maryland's public sector, and to assist them in navigating the procurement process, such as the Board of Public Works.
Tyler is a graduate of West Virginia University, where he studied political science and economics. He is a lifelong resident of Anne Arundel County, growing up in Severna Park and currently resides in Baltimore City.
